Severe Weather in Arkansas

April 5, 2008

This past Thursday night we had some very severe weather in Central Arkansas. The news reported at least three tornadoes that evening and they did significant damage.

The worst that I have been personally involved in is what happened at my Pastor’s house. He had many trees in his backyard, all of which were knocked down or uprooted. Several trees fell on his wife’s car, his son’s car, and his in-law’s car (they happened to be in town when it happened.) Pastor’s car escaped any damage because he was doing a hospital call when it happened. The electricity is off and all the wires were pulled away from the house. A tree limb hit the house, cracking a wall and causing the roof to leak.

Pastor and his family are all safe, although they are quite shaken up. I was with them for much of Friday morning.

It is at these times, when we feel so powerless, that we need to be reminded of Christ’s presence with us, at all times and in all places.

Almighty God, merciful Father, Your thoughts are not our thoughts, Your ways are not our ways. In Your wisdom You have permitted this disastrous storm to befall us. We implore You, let not the hearts of Your people despair nor our faith fail us, but sustain and comfort us. Direct all efforts to attend the injured, console the bereaved, and protect the helpless. Bring hope and healing that we may find relief and restoration; through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
