Improvisation: A Mighty Fortress Is Our God

March 8, 2010

A good friend, who is a fantastic organist himself,  passed along this great improvisation on the tune EIN FESTE BURG, most commonly used in the hymn “A Mighty Fortress Is Our God.”  The organist does a fantastic job and is certainly having fun!  (Her name is Maria Schwarwiess and this improvisation was recorded on October 31st, 2008 at the Nathanaelchurch in Berlin-Schöneberg.) Many thanks to Lance for passing this along.  Enjoy!

  1. Whew. Breathtaking!

    • Yeah, there’s some pretty spectacular stuff going on there. Gonna be a while before I can do something like that (if ever.)

  2. Just wow. I can merely bow and say I’m not worthy. Totally intimidates me from playing the piano in a public forum. :)

    • This video intimidates me as well, so don’t worry, you’re not the only one.

  3. I LOVE your early Time Out broadcasts!
