Lenten Hymn: Ah, Holy Jesus

March 15, 2010

I was privileged to hear Dr. John Ferguson lead a hymn festival a week ago.  In it, there was a section that alternated between “O Come, All Ye Faithful” and “Ah, Holy Jesus” (this is called “O Dearest Jesus, What Law Hast Thou Broken” in Lutheran Service Book.”  It was intriguing and helped show that the Christ-child born on Christmas was born to die for the sins of the whole world.

Here is a video of Ferguson’s setting of “Ah, Holy Jesus” from the 2007 Calvin College Symposium on Worship.  (Unfortunately, the video cuts off before the hymn is done, but you can still get a good feel for the piece.)
