For Jesus’ Sake

April 30, 2010

This is what it means to pray in the name of Jesus and to end the prayer with the hopeful phrase “for Jesus’ sake.”  Since Jesus has reconciled everything, even our inadequate prayers can be brought forward as an offering and gift to God.  We can talk to Him about things we’re not sure are right or wrong.  Sin is also a part of our prayers.  Sinners aren’t as devoted, not as unselfish, not as filled with love for God and man as we ought to be, yet we dare to pray.  Christ’s reconciliation and His endless mercy encompass them, just as they encompass our entire lives.  We can pray as children, perhaps a little foolishly and immaturely, always imperfectly, and still be encompassed by our Father’s love and mercy.
