Baptism: a chariot to heaven

December 6, 2010

I just began reading Worshiping with the Church Fathers by Christopher Hall (thanks, Dan),  and the quote that opens the first section of the book was quite interesting:

Great is the baptism that lies before you: the ransom of captives, the forgiveness of sins, the death of sin, the regeneration of the soul, the garment of light, the holy perpetual seal, a chariot to heaven, the delight of paradise, a welcome into the kingdom, the gift of adoption.    ~ Cyril of Jerusalem Protocatachesis 16

How wonderfully put! Becoming a child of God is a treasured gift that we sometimes forget….indeed it is a chariot to heaven! Thanks, Nathan!
